UK man trying extreme climbing stunt in Austria falls to death
text_fieldsLondon: A British tourist fell from 90 metres to death while climbing an aerial ladder on a mountain in Austria, Metro reported.
The 42-year-old man was trying an extreme climb on what is locally called ‘stairway to heaven’ when he slipped and plunged to the valley.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the man.
The aerial ladder is linked sharply to the Dachstein Mountains outside of Salzburg.
The area is popular among tourists who love to click scenic background for their Instagram posts.
The accident took place on September 12 and police and rescue helicopters later recovered his body from the valley.
Authorities said that the tourist was trying a solo climb and ruled any third-party negligence.
The Dachstein region tourist website claimed that the ladder is the ‘new TOP attraction’.
The climb that offers ‘the ultimate adrenaline kick’ is to be performed in four stages. ‘The Panorama-ladder with its 40 meters is the new TOP attraction for all fans of via Ferratas. The via ferrata on the Donnerkogel at the Zwieselalm in Gosau at Dachstein presents amazing and breathtaking views of the glacier of the Dachstein, as well as of the highest mountain of Austria - the Grobglockner. The Ladder to heaven was built by Outdoor Leadership with their professional climber Heli Putz,’ the website reportedly said.
However the website adds a rider that said the climb is meant only for ‘experienced climbers’.
