Stockholm: Sweden’s Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia have welcomed their fourth child, a baby girl, born on Friday in Stockholm.
The newborn princess, whose name and photograph have not yet been released, weighed 3,645 grams (8 lbs) and measured 49 centimeters (19 inches) at birth.
Prince Carl Philip, son of King Carl XVI Gustaf and fourth in line to the Swedish throne, married Sofia Hellqvist in June 2015. Their daughter now joins her older brothers—Prince Alexander, Prince Gabriel, and Prince Julian.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and the government extended their congratulations to the royal family. "We wish the family all the best," Kristersson said in a statement.
While Sweden’s monarchy is purely ceremonial, the royal family remains widely popular, enjoying strong public support in the egalitarian Nordic nation.
