Singapore’s passport becomes the world’s most powerful one, India at 80th spot
text_fieldsLondon: Singaporean passport has emerged as the world’s most powerful one, replacing Japan’s passport, according to Henley Passport Index.
Now the holder of Singapore’s passport can have visa-free entry to 192 global destinations, making the nation top the world ranking, The Bloomberg reported.
Japan, however, slipped to third place after staying at the top for five years as number of nations it requires no visa came down.
The latest ranking puts India's passport at the 80th spot, moving it up five places from its position in 2022, meaning Indians can now travel to 57 destinations without a visa.
India now joins countries like Togo and Senegal in ranking, which allows Indian passport holders to travel without visa to countries such as Indonesia, Thailand, Rwanda, Jamaica, and Sri Lanka.
Indians need a visa to enter 177 destinations across the world including among others China, Japan, Russia, the United States, and European Union Countries.
According to the ranking published by London-based immigration consultancy Henley & Partners, the world’s largest economy and most powerful nation, USA ranked eight on the list which it once topped almost a decade ago.
The slump caused by its exit from European Union made the UK to jump two places to fourth, the position it held in 2017.
It is hard to come by the passport of Singapore as the nation granted citizenship to about 23,100 last year.
The nation of 5.6 million, which is called the magnet for wealth, saw an influx after China cracked down on ‘private enterprises’ and ‘geopolitical tensions’.
Authorities in Singapore , however, denied the charge that the nation is granting citizenship to fewer people considering net worth of individuals.
