text_fieldsMichigan: The campus police at Michigan State University said at least three people were killed after a shooting on Monday night on campus.
Five others were wounded in the shooting and are being treated in a local hospital, CNN reported.
Shots were believed to be fired at two places on the campus—close to an academic building named Berkey Hall and athletic facility called IM East, according to The Guardian.
Meanwhile the campus police released the images of a potential suspect behind the attack.
The image released by the police showed a short man, wearing mask, climbing a stair.
“The suspect is a Black male, shorter in stature, red shoes, jean jacket, wearing a baseball cap that is navy with a lighter brim” a communique from the police said. The single suspect was believed to be on foot, further reports said.
Hours after the shooting that caused a mayhem police said that the suspect was still at large.
Just as shots began ringing out around the East Lansing campus, police asked students and staff to stay in safety.
At about 8.30 there came an alert from the campus police advising students to ‘run, hide fight’, The Guardian reported.
Meanwhile, CNN quoted Gabe Treutel, a freshman at Michigan State University, as saying that he and his roommates hunkered down and were listening to the police scanners while the shooting continued.
Gabe Treutel was taking a quiz for his chemistry lab sitting in his dorm room when an email from the university alerted him of shots being fired on campus.
He and his roommates immediately turned on the local police scanner for updates on the incident.
Police scanners are reportedly useful for monitoring police movements but CNN added that scanners could often contain unconfirmed or false reports of shooters.
