The Group of Seven (G7) nations has urged Russia to agree to a ceasefire with Ukraine, warning that failure to do so could result in additional sanctions.

In a draft statement finalised by senior diplomats, the G7 emphasised the need for strong security measures to ensure a sustainable truce.

The statement, which still requires approval from G7 ministers, calls on Moscow to match Kyiv's commitment to a ceasefire on equal terms and to fully implement it.

The G7, which includes the United States, Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan, stressed that any ceasefire must be upheld and backed by credible security guarantees to prevent further hostilities.

"They underscored the necessity of robust and reliable security arrangements to ensure Ukraine can deter and defend against any future aggression," the draft statement reads.
