Protests broke out at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque area in Dhaka on Friday after several took out a demonstration against the ongoing visit of PM Modi in the country. Modi arrived in Dhaka on Friday to be part of the country's celebration of 50 years of liberation from Pakistan and the 100th birth anniversary of its founder Sheikh Mujbur Rahman who is also the father of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The protestors took out a demonstration raising anti-Modi slogans at the Mosque's south gate after the Friday afternoon prayers. Police resorted to lathi-charge and fired rubber bullets to disperse the protests. Meanwhile, leaders and activists of the ruling party's student wing, Bangladesh Chhatra League or BCL, launched a protest against the demonstrators at the north gate, leading to a scuffle between the two groups. The injured, including scribes, are now being treated at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Modi, in the meantime, was in a meeting with the political leaders of the 14 party alliance at the Sonargaon hotel in Karwan Bazar, not far from the scuffle.

Following the clash at the Mosque, around 1000 students of Hathazari madrasa in Chittagong, attacked the Hathazari model police station leading to clashes that left five madrasa students injured who are now being treated at Chattagram Medical College Hospital.
