Washington: After US Supreme Court banned women's right to abortion Friday, hundreds of women came out protesting the court ruling.

The number of demonstrators demanding abortion rights increased outside the Supreme Court on Saturday.

The sweeping ruling by the court could alter American life, with nearly half the states considered certain or likely to ban abortion, according to Reuters.

Placards held by the protesters reportedly said "limit guns, not women", while a protester was quoted as saying 'my body, my choice".

In a more alarming development, Conservative Justice Clarence Thomas suggested rippling effect of the ruling in other aspects of American life including right to contraception, legalizing gay marriage and gay sex.

The court's reasoning according to him could lead to reconsider past rulings that protected right to contraception, legalizing gay marriage and invalidating state laws banning gay sex.

Just a day before the abortion ruling, another ruling by the court found that Americans have a constitutional right to carry a concealed gun for protection.

Disappointed at the court abortion ruling, President Joe Biden said on Saturday that the White House will monitor how states enforce bans.

Meanwhile, his administration officials signaled at fighting attempts to ban a pill for medication abortion.

Biden administration is to challenge moves to restrict women from traveling other states to seek abortion.

Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump praised the Supreme Court ruling calling it victory for the Constitution.
