text_fieldsNew York: A commercial flight traveling from Miami to Chile had to make an emergency landing on Sunday night after pilot collapsed to death in the bathroom.
The flight with 271 passengers on board of LATAM Airlines landed in Panama after Captain Ivan Andaur felt unwell three hours after takeoff.
The crew gave him emergency treatment but he could not be revived, Independent reported.
Landed at Panama City's Tocumen International Airport, a medical team checked on the pilot only to declare him dead.
The 56-year-old was a veteran pilot with an experience of 25 years.
The airline LATAM Airlines Group stated on Monday that flight LA505 had to ‘land at the Tocumen International Airport in Panama due to a medical emergency for one of the three members of the command crew. When the plane landed, emergency services provided life-saving help, but the pilot sadly passed away.’
It further said that ‘We are deeply moved by what has happened, and we extend our sincere condolences to the family of our employee. We are deeply grateful for his 25-year career and his valuable contribution, which was always distinguished by his dedication, professionalism, and dedication’.
The airline claimed that ‘all the necessary safety protocols were carried out to safeguard the life of the affected pilot’.
However, a nurse was quoted as saying that there was no ‘necessary or sufficient supplies to perform a good resuscitation’.
Hours later on Tuesday, the flight headed towards Chile from Panama City.
