Tel Aviv: An apparent drone strike on Tel Aviv, Israel, that left one person dead and at least ten injured has been attributed to the Houthi group in Yemen, according to sources. A social media post on Friday by an official for the Houthi armed forces said that the organisation, which is affiliated with Iran, had "targeted 'Tel Aviv' in occupied Palestine.”

The new drone it used was said to be "capable of bypassing interceptor systems and being unable to be detected by radars." The big explosion that occurred close to the US embassy building in the city has sparked an investigation by the Israeli military, which said it would look into why the nation's air defence systems were not activated to intercept the "aerial target.”

“We’re talking about a large UAV [Unmanned Aerial Vehicle] that can fly large distances,” a military official told a briefing for journalists following the strike. “We’re not ruling out any possibilities right now.”

The military in a social media post stated that patrols have been increased to “protect the country’s skies”.
