Oman is extending the visa-free period for citizens from 103 countries to 14 days, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) has announced. The step comes as an effort to revamp the tourism sector of the sultanate. However, the countries were not specified.

"As part of the efforts to support the tourism sector in the Sultanate, it has been decided to extend the exemption period for the nationals of 103 countries exempted from the entry visa to 14 days as part specific regulations and conditions," says the statement by the ROP on Twitter. Last December, the gulf state had announced free visa period of 10 days for 103 countries' citizens which have now been extended.

However, visitors must still follow Covid19 requirements such as confirmed hotel reservation, health insurance, return ticket and continued PCR tests upon entry.

Earlier this week, Oman announced the closing of its land borders for at least a week from January 18th to curb the spread of the fast-spreading mutated COVID-19 strain.
