New York: It seems New York knows only too well how dangerous the gun culture is.

The city has witnessed scores of gun attacks, spilling innocent blood even in places including subways.

Now authorities Wednesday announced ban on carrying firearms in Times Square district and other public places.

This is the city's answer to the raging question of controlling firearms.

New York's legislature passed a legislation that restricted the possession of firearms in sensitive locations earlier this year, as per a report by AFP.

The legislation will come into effect on Thursday, as a reaction to US Supreme Court that ratified the conservatives' agenda of lax gun control.

In late June the conservative-majority US Supreme Court enshrined the right of Americans to leave their homes armed, striking down a 1913 New York law that restricted the carrying of firearms, according to the report.

The city's Democratic mayor, Eric Adams told journalists that NYC will defend itself against this decision, beginning on tomorrow (Thursday).

The mayor unveiled the sign "Times Square: Gun Free Zone" to be hung by Thursday around Times Square.

The governor of the city where 50 million visitors flock each year said weapons, even if concealed, will be banned in "bars, libraries, schools, government buildings and hospitals, among others."

The restrictions however spare law enforcement officers.
