New York: The body of Saketh Sreenivasaiah, a 22-year-old postgraduate student from Karnataka at the University of California, Berkeley, has been recovered after he went missing on February 9.

The Indian Consulate in San Francisco confirmed the tragic news on Saturday via X, expressing deep regret and offering full support to his family.

Local police found his backpack—containing passport and laptop—on a doorstep in the Park Hills neighbourhood, as reported by The Berkeley Scanner. The consulate is coordinating with authorities for repatriation of remains and all necessary formalities.

“Stands ready to provide all necessary assistance to the family, including coordination with local authorities and arrangements for the repatriation of mortal remains to India at the earliest,” the consulate stated, extending condolences to his loved ones.
