Man kills five with bow and arrow in Norway
text_fieldsA Danish man (37) has been arrested in the town of Kongsberg, near the capital city Oslo in Norway for allegedly killing five people with a bow and arrow. The attack took place in a supermarket and reports mention that an off-duty police officer in the store at the time was injured in the attack.
Prime Minister Erna Solberg said reports of the incident had been "horrifying".
"I understand that many people are afraid, but it's important to emphasise that the police are now in control," she told a news conference, as quoted by Reuters news agency.
Government and police officials have not confirmed whether there was any terrorist motive behind the attack and said that it was stopped early to draw conclusions. The investigation was underway and police were looking into whether the suspect had acted alone, spokespersons said. The assailant was cooperating with the police during extensive questioning reports say.
Police have cordoned off large parts of the town and the National police directorate has issued an earning to officers to carry arms.
