New York: A 21-year-old Indian-origin student was shot dead in Philadelphia on Sunday, media reports said.

The victim, identified as Jude Chacko, is from Kerala whose parents migrated to the US more than 30 years ago, reported news agency AFP citing Khaleej Times.

Chacko was returning from work when he was attacked by two unidentified assailants during a robbery attempt.

He was working part-time alongside pursuing education in the US.

His funeral is likely to be held at a Malankara Catholic Church in Philadelphia on Saturday.

In April this year, Saiesh Veera, a 24-year-old student from Andhra Pradesh, was shot dead by unknown men at a fuel station in Ohio.

Shootings in the US have never been a concern for Indians back home despite a sizeable number of Indians work and study in the nation.

The fact that Indians also becoming victims in mass shooting is particularly close home for many families back home.
