Leaked CDC document says war has changed as Delta variant dangers emerge

New York: Leaked documents from the US's Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that it is acknowledging "the war has changed" regarding Covid-19, against the US president's description "summer of freedom" he made nearly a month ago, reports IANS.

The leaked information fished out by the Washington Post states that the CDC is viewing the Delta variant of the virus as contagious as chickenpox.

The CDC's document says that the public is puzzled about breakthrough infections- infected after both vaccine doses- out of the Covid-19 virus. The organisation is working on how to explain the US population that vaccine reduces the risk of death or severe illness to 10 fold. It admits that it is struggling to convince people that breakthrough cases are rare or a small percentage of the total cases. Likewise, the administration, from the White House through the length downwards up to local bodies, and the US Covid Response team are struggling to communicate the threats from new variants and shifting masses back to the practice of wearing masks.

After large outbreaks happened among vaccinated in Cape Cod town of Provincetown, Massachusetts, CDC states that new evidence shows that breakthrough infections may be as contagious as those in unvaccinated people.

Since January this year, vaccinated people contribute a larger portion among infected people who were hospitalised or dead, which coincides with the advent of the Delta variant.

Now, local health departments are questioning the effectiveness of vaccines as well as the public and they are convinced booster doses of vaccines are needed.

The pandemic has claimed 6,12,000 lives so far in the US since its breakout.
