Kabul: Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio said that it is impossible for his country to recognise the caretaker government in Afghanistan led by the Taliban. He was responding to the claim made by the Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid that the UN will soon recognise the Taliban as Afghanistan's caretaker government.

Adding that at least 17 of the appointed ministers were "terrorists", Di Maio said that the Taliban are accused of human rights violations which will not be recognised by Italy, reports Khaama News.

In a statement on Sunday, he added that the people of Afghanistan should be provided financial support by the international community and the world must get together to prevent an influx of refugees that will destabilise the regional nations.
