Israeli ground troops encircle Gaza City, set to enter in 48 hours: report
text_fieldsGaza: The raging war in Gaza is seemingly taking a more horrendous turn as the Israeli forces late on Sunday announced it had encircled Gaza City for a bloody showdown with Hamas.
The Guardian further reported the military as announcing it had ‘divided the besieged coastal strip into two’.
Israeli military Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari told reporters that ‘Today there is north Gaza and south Gaza’
In a major announcement at this hour, Associated Press reported citing Israeli media that Israeli troops will enter Gaza City within 48 hours.
Associated Press quoted Daniel Hagari as talking about a significant stage in Israeli military’s war against Hamas ruling the Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, Palestinian telecom company Paltel and internet advocacy group NetBlocks.org said there was a ‘collapse in connectivity’, making it difficult to get details of the new stage of the ‘military offensive’.
Meanwhile, two refugee camps on Sunday came under Israel’s continuing airstrikes killing several people, Gazan health officials said.
As the war is escalating, reports say that over 9,700 Palestinians have so far been killed in Israeli airstrikes.
Most painful of the details from the warzone is more than 4,000 of those died are children and minors, according to the Health Ministry in Gaza.
The current conflict in the region was triggered after Hamas overran Israel on October 7 killing 1,400 people and taking hostage more than 200.
