Iranian president states nation will pursue peace if United States builds trust

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian confirmed Saturday that Tehran remains committed to pursuing a path of peace under the recently signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United States, contingent on Washington actively building mutual trust. Speaking at a press conference, Pezeshkian noted that internal solidarity makes this an optimal moment to reach a formal agreement, provided the U.S. moves past the atmosphere of distrust it has created.

Pezeshkian emphasized a framework of strict reciprocity, stating that Iran's compliance will directly mirror the degree to which the U.S. fulfills its obligations. He made clear that Iran will not yield to force and that final policy decisions ultimately rest with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei. Addressing domestic concerns and rumors of high-level divisions over the diplomacy, Pezeshkian denied rumors of his resignation and affirmed he will resolutely continue his duties.

The MoU, signed in June to establish a framework for ending regional conflict, outlined a 60-day window for both nations to negotiate a definitive agreement. Despite recent regional escalations casting uncertainty over the process, Pezeshkian reiterated that Iran intends to uphold its commitments as long as the United States honors its own.
