Indian-American Businesswoman killed In New York House Fire

An Indian-American businesswoman and her dog died after a fire broke out inside her cottage in New York.
Tanya Bathija, 32, reportedly died before the police arrived at her Dix Hills cottage in Long Island at 2.53 am on December 14.
Bathija, who had MBA in accounting and finance, had recently opened a Dunkin' Donuts outlet in Bellport, Long Island.
The flames were too large for the police to get in to the cottage. The Suffolk County Police Department has ruled out any criminal conspiracy in this case.
Lt Kevin Beyrer, head of Suffolk Police Department's homicide squad, said Tanya Bathija lived in the cottage behind her parents' house on Carlls Straight Path.
Bathija's father Gobind Bathija was the first to notice the fire during his morning workout routine and quickly alerted the police.
The department said that Gobind Bathija, who is a businessman and community leader, alerted his wife and tried to get Bathija out but it was fully engulfed.
One local daily Newsday reportedly said that patrol officers tried to enter the cottage but the fires were too strong.
Officers had been taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for smoke inhalation.
Tanya Bathija's funeral will be held at Maloney's Lake Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Lake Ronkonkoma, reports say.
