Hush money to pornstar: Trump calls for protest against arrest

New York: Former American President Donald Trump said that he might be arrested on Tuesday on the matter of paying hush money to a pornstar ahead of the 2016 elections. He also called on his supporters to protest, Agence-France Presse reported.

Trump wrote on Truth Social, a social media platform, on Saturday morning, "Leading Republican candidate & former President of the United States of America will be arrested on Tuesday of next week. Protest, take our nation back!" He claimed that there was a "leak' from the Manhattan district attorney's office regarding the arrest.

The investigation on the issue stems from an alleged payment of $1,30,000 to the porn actress Stephanie Clifford alias Stormy Daniels. The money was to keep her from going public about Trump's alleged relationship with her years before that.

While prosecutors are thinking about charging Trump in the matter, he will become the first former President to be charged with a crime if the Manhattan district attorney decides to indict him.

However, Trump's lawyer told the news agency CNVC on Friday that his client will surrender and face criminal charges if he gets indicted by the Manhattan jury.

But Trump has denied the allegations of being in an affair with Daniels.

He had mentioned in his post that "illegal leaks from a corrupt and highly political Manhattan district attorney's office", AFP quotes.
