Beijing: Following a fire at a plant in central China, state media reported on Tuesday that 36 people had died and two more were still missing.

According to news agency Xinhua, the fire "took place at a plant in Anyang City, central China's Henan Province on Monday afternoon." It didn't provide any more information.

In China, industrial accidents are frequent and frequently result from lax adherence to safety regulations, AFP reported.

78 individuals were killed and dozens of buildings were destroyed by an explosion at a chemical facility in Yancheng, 260 kilometres (161 miles) from Shanghai, in March 2019.

And in 2015, one of China's deadliest industrial catastrophes ever resulted in 165 fatalities when a massive explosion occurred at a chemical warehouse in northern Tianjin.
