European Union plays the "law of the jungle": Russia
text_fieldsMoscow: Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said that the European Union is executing the "law of the jungle". He was commenting on the idea, floated by EU's top diplomat Josep Borell, of Seizing the foreign-exchange reserves of the Russian state, IANS reported.
Recently, Borrell said in an interview with FT that Russia's frozen assets should be seized and used to cover the costs Ukraine will endure rebuilding from the destruction of war once the conflict subsides.
Grushko said that such a move would be an act of "complete lawlessness", which would destroy the very basis of international relations.
Grushko further said that the EU's "appetite comes with eating". He said that such a move would hit Europeans themselves, destroying the modern financial system and undermining confidence in Europe and the West.
Borell had mentioned in the interview that United States president Joe Biden had put aside billions worth of the assets of Afghanistan's central bank to aid the Afghan people, referring to it as a precedent.
Borrell also said that the world needs to answer the key question of who will pay the hefty amount of money that would be required to rebuild Ukraine.
