Yakusk/ Russia: The dense wall of icy mist never allows eyes to travel more than a couple of metres in the Siberian city of Yakutsk.

Photos from the area show people struggling to live with an abnormally long cold snap.

Known to be the coldest city on earth, Yakutsk saw temperatures plummeting to a bone-chilling minus 50 degrees Celsius this week, Reuters reported.

Residents of the mining city, located 5,000 km east of Moscow on the permafrost of the Russian Far East, has been struggling with cold spells falling below minus 40 regularly.

Anastasia Gruzdeva, one of the residents, tells that one can’t fight the cold but just gets along with it or suffer.

She is among those who come out of their homes wearing multiple scarves, two pairs of gloves and many hats and hoods.

Anastasia Gruzdeva said that one does not feel the cold in the city as the brain prepares for it, making it believe that everything is normal.

Nurgusun Starostina, who sells frozen fish at a market without having to use a fridge or freezer, said one has to just dress in layers like a cabbage

She added that there is no special secrets to deal with the cold.
