Century-old tunnel under Niagara Falls opened to the public
text_fieldsNiagara Falls is already a popular tourist destination and now visitors have one more stop to make here. A tunnel built over a hundred years ago on the Canadian side has been opened to the public.
It has been part of the decommissioned Niagara Parks Power Station tour since July 2022. The tunnel is for those who want to see engineering marvels and learn about the fascinating history of the power station. They can also get a different perspective of the grounds, reported CNN.
A glass-enclosed elevator will be taking visitors to the tunnel. It has hidden decks. Tourists will be led to a viewing area from where they can see the Falls. They will also get insights into how workers kept the station running for over a century, reported Fox4News.
The power station in question formerly functioned from underneath the region between 1905 and 2006. It was used to divert water from the Niagara River to run generators that produced electricity for the regional industry. It also contributed to the Great Lakes port of Buffalo which was known as the City of Light. Back in the day, the tunnel and power station made the region a hub of activity for industrialists.
