Bomb attack at Afghan school kills 58, death toll expected to rise

At least 58 people were killed and about 150 others injured in a bomb attack on a school on Saturday in west Kabul, according to Afghan Interior Ministry.

Casualties were mostly female students as a car bomb and mortars outside the school ticked off causing explosions.

"The entire night we carried bodies of young girls and boys to a graveyard and prayed for everyone wounded in the attack," said Mohammed Reza Ali, who has been helping families of the victims at a private hospital, to Reuters. "Why not just kill all of us to put an end to this war?"

According to AP, at least 20 dead bodies laid back-to-back in hallways and rooms of a hospital facility closer to the happening, with another dozens of casualties.

On Saturday, the President Ashraf Ghani alleged the attack was done by Taliban troops, however, the Taliban issued a statement denying responsibility.

"The Taliban, by escalating their illegitimate war and violence, have once again shown that they are not only reluctant to resolve the current crisis peacefully and fundamentally, but are complicating the situation," Ghani stated.

The attack comes as the United States recently decided to pull off their troops from Afghanistan. The U.S. and Taliban reached an agreement last year to end the two-decade-long war in Afghanistan, so the Taliban group will initiate peace talks with the Afghan government. However, peace talks are yet to be on the table.

"With scores murdered, this unforgivable attack on children is an assault on Afghanistan's future, which cannot stand," tweeted Ross Wilson, Washington's diplomat in Afghanistan.
