A court in Bangladesh granted bail on Wednesday to Chinmoy Krishna Das, a former leader of ISKCON, who had been arrested on sedition charges, The Daily Star reported.

Das, who currently serves as the spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilito Sanatani Jagran Jote, was taken into custody on November 25. His arrest triggered significant public backlash and widespread protests, Indian Express reported.

Who is Chinmoy Krishna Das?

Chinmoy Krishna Das serves as the spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sommilito Sanatan Jagaran Jot, a newly established coalition formed through the union of two religious organizations: the Bangladesh Sanatan Jagaran Manch and the Bangladesh Sommilito Shankhaloghu Jot.

The Sanatan Jagaran Manch is dedicated to promoting and protecting the rights of Hindus and other minority communities in Bangladesh.

Krishna also leads the Pundarik Dham located in Chittagong. As per the ISKCON Centres website, this Dham is situated in the Hathazari thana, roughly 18 kilometres from Chittagong city.

On October 30, a case was registered at the Kotwali Police Station in Chittagong against 19 individuals, including Krishna. The charges, as reported by news agency PTI, allege that they disrespected the national flag of Bangladesh during a Hindu community rally held in the New Market area of Chittagong.
