Tehran: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian warned the US that any attack on Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, would be seen as a declaration of war on his country. Pezeshkian’s warning comes amid speculations that US President Donald Trump may attempt to remove or assassinate Khamenei, The Indian Express reported.

Pezeshkian wrote on X on Sunday, “An attack on the great leader of our country is tantamount to a full-scale war with the Iranian nation.”

He blamed the US for the protests in Iran, which have been going on in the country for the past two weeks. He said that it was the US’s sanctions the major reason behind Iran’s economic crisis.

“If there are hardships in the lives of the dear people of Iran, one of the main causes is the longstanding hostility and inhumane sanctions imposed by the US government and its allies,” he wrote on X.

In a recent interview, Trump told Politico that Khamenei’s 40-year-old rule in Iran must end. He described the Iran supreme leader “a sick man” and accused him of killing his own people.

Meanwhile, Hackers disrupted Iranian state television satellite transmissions to air footage supporting the country's exiled crown prince and calling on security forces not “point your weapons at the people,” footage online showed early Monday, the latest disruption to follow nationwide protests in the country, the Associated Press reported.

The hacking comes as the death toll in a crackdown by authorities that smothered the demonstrations reached at least 3,919 people killed, activists said. They fear the number will grow far higher as information leaks out of a country still gripped by the government's decision to shut down the internet.
