First ever meeting of High Council for National Reconciliation ( HCNR) was inaugurated by Afghan president Ashraf Ghani on Saturday.

The Afghan people want peace and our duty is to bring that peace – Ashraf Ghani said during the event. Along that, the president extended his greetings to Afghan people for their commitment and encouragement for ensuring tranquillity.

Ashraf Ghani asserted that the situation has changed and we can rely on the help of the world. We can not act our own.

The meeting happens amid the ongoing peace talks between Afghan delegation and Taliban representatives in Doha, capital city of Qatar.Ghani added that the negotiations have reached the second stage, the first stage reveals that the task was not easy.

Earlier on Wednesday, both the parties have agreed upon rules and procedures for peace talks- The Washington Post has reported citing the tweet of Zalmay Khalilzad, U.S special envoy for Afghan.

High Council for Reconciliation has the final say regarding the peace deals that may be signed between Afghan government and Taliban.

The council that includes 46 members is headed by Ashraf Ghani's rival in last presidential election Dr.AbdullahAbdullah. Eventhough the council was announced by Afghan president in August, meetings were hampered.
