Moscow: A footage doing rounds on social media showed a pilot covered with blood, while in control of an aircraft.

Beside him was dangling down from the cockpit an equally blood splattered large bird.

The visibly dead bird was fluttering in strong winds, probably seeping in through the crashed windshield.

The video, emerged from Ecuador, was captured moments after a large bird crashed into the aircraft during flight.

Only the lower part of the bird’s body is visible alongside its bloody talons.

Russia Today reported that the plane landed safely and the pilot was identified as Ariel Valiente.

‘Pilot safely lands his plane after a huge bird struck his windshield in the Los Rios Province, Ecuador. Ariel Valiente was not injured during the incident,’ it was tweeted.

Many on social media praised pilot’s composure while landing flight in the face of potential risk.

‘This guy is a legend,’ said somebody on social media, praising the pilot’s calmness

Another user said ‘So lucky, I knew an airline pilot that lost his eye when this happened’.

A third user played on the word road kill saying ‘I've heard of roadkill, but never have I seen or heard of airkill’.

Another person, claiming to be a flight instructor, said in stressful situation, pilots will return to the first thing they learnt, adding ‘that’s why initial training is so important’.

However it is not yet certain whether the blood is that of the bird or pilot.

Some guessed that the bird involved in the accident must have been an Andean Condor, which can have a wingspan of up to nine feet.
