A dog walks 64-km spending nearly a month to meet the original owner
text_fieldsCounty Tyrone, Ireland: A dog in Ireland returned to its original owner after walking 40 miles, escaping from its new owner.
The golden retriever named Cooper leapt out of the car on reaching its new home in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, according to Metro.
It must have been planning to escape at an opportune moment as it was being taken to the new home.
It couldn’t wait anymore as it arrived at the new home, and took a leap into the unknown, and spent days on the road.
The dog vanished for nearly a month; meanwhile it was walking to cover 64 kilometres to find its original owner in Tobermore, County Londonderry.
Later, a charity for missing pets Lost Paws NI said they got tip-off on April 22 about the dog’s sightings in several fields.
One caller reported to the charity of seeing Cooper heading towards its old home.
The report said the dog walked along thoroughfares mostly at night without being helped by humans.
‘I'll never know but he managed it. No food, no shelter, no help, just dogged determination and that incredible nose,’ a spokesperson for Lost Paws NI reportedly said.
The spokesperson praised the dog’s instinct that took him back to the place he once lived.
The new owner of the dog, Nigel Fleming, claimed that Cooper is 'safe now', and it is eating small meals to build up its strength, putting on weight slowly.'
‘'Even when he was missing, my faith in humanity was restored thanks to the incredible help I was offered, and today with him here by my side and with Molly, I don't really have the words to explain the gratitude I feel.’ Fleming reportedly said.
