Kabul: 148 Taliban fighters were killed, and over 160 were wounded after fights ensued between Afghan National Security and Defence Forces (ANDSF) and the Taliban across 200 areas in 24 hours, the Defence Ministry informed.

The Taliban also claim to have killed over 50 security forces and wounded dozens more. It further claims to have captured two military bases in Shinkai district, Zabul province and Bagahwi village of Sar-e-Pul province. Taliban has captured over a dozen districts since the withdrawal of US-led forced from Afghanistan on May 1. The government has lost over 30 districts, about 8 per cent of the country, to the Taliban over the past two months.

Previously, 210 districts, which makes up 54 per cent of the entire territory in Afghanistan, were under the control of the government, 132 districts are contested, and 46 districts were under Taliban control.
