Tech news: Meta owns the instant messaging platform WhatsApp, which is testing a fresh feature that could automatically transcribe voice notes to text. The Indian Express reported that the new feature is intended to enable users to deal with voice notes hassle-free.

It has been learned that the platform has already started rolling out the feature to some of its beta users.

WABetaInfo reported that the feature is available with WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.15.5, and the version is currently available for download on the Google Play Store.

The voice note transcribe is expected to be enabled for both incoming and outgoing voice messages. Users will have to download an additional package and the transcription will only in the device itself, meaning only the user of the device could access the trancripted message. Currently available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian and Hindi, the feature is expected to be made available in more languages in the future.

The Indian Express reports that the voice not transcribe feature will be useful in a noisy environment with no headphones or if the user dop not wanted played it before others. If the voice message is lengthy, the feature will also be handy. Further, since the voice note is converted, users can search through those messages, too.

WhatsApp has received a series of new features in recent weeks, such as several new features like Meta AI, a ChatGPT-like conversational chatbot. It has been learned that the platform is working on some new AI features, such as Imagine Me, which can create AI versions for users.
