Thook Jihad! Muslims spit on food: BJP MLAs inciting speech

Hyderabad: A BJP MLA from Telangana delivered a strictly problematic speech, accusing Muslims of spitting on food to be sold and, by extension, running 'took jihad', Siasat reported.

Speaking at Telangana's capital city, Hyderabad, the BJP MLA T Raja Singh said that it is essential for the state government to create a law, similar to the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, mandating eatery owners to display their names before their businesses. A video has emerged.

Siasat reports that 'took Jihad' is a conspiracy hatched by the Hindu right-wing against Muslims, accusing Muslim eatery owners of spitting on the food they sell.

Raja Singh can be heard saying in the video that the Kanwar Yatra is carried out with pomp in Uttar Pradesh. Because of the pilgrimage procession, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered all eateries to display the names of their owners. This is because Muslims spit on water, food, and all other items with the intent to carry out "thook Jihad", the MLA said.

Further, he claimed that Muslims are running shops under Hindu names to trick people. However, now they have to display their names before their shops and so that "our Hindu brothers are aware", he said.

However, the orders in question issued by the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments have been temporarily stayed by the Supreme Court. The two states had ordered eatery owners along the Kanwar Yatra path to display their names before their businesses. The display must include other details, including information about its staff.

Following the order, the opposition slammed it, calling it a bid to promote religious discrimination.

The BJP MLA Raja Singh is known for his communally inciting speeches against Muslims. There was one of his speeches with hate content from Madhya Pradesh, and videos of that went viral on social media.
