An artist has used artificial intelligence to imagine what the iconic Mughal era monument Taj Mahal might have looked like during its construction.

The seven pictures generated with Midjourney show workers carrying out tasks and the mausoleum in its incomplete state. Its signature minarets are seen in every single picture.

Artist Jyo John Mulloor shared the images on Instagram and wrote, "A glimpse into the past! Shah Jahan's incredible legacy, the Taj Mahal, was captured during its construction. Grateful to have these rare photos and his permission letter to share with you all."

The images have already received over 88,000 likes and several comments showing awe. A user said they wanted to see how the Pyramids of Egypt must have looked during construction and what tools might have been in use.

The artist describes himself as an artificial intelligence enthusiast and AI time traveller. He earlier shared a series of images imagining what people from other time periods and historic figures might have looked like while taking a selfie. He also created images of humans posing for photographs with some of the largest domestic animals on record. He also created aliens living on other planets taking selfies, childhood photographs of characters from the popular TV show Vikings, and Game of Thrones characters in Indian costumes.
