ChatGPT has taken the era of artificial intelligence to the mainstream and people are enthusiastically testing its limits.

One curious user asked ChatGPT to write a two-sentence horror story that would be scary to an AI. The answer is a little terrifying to humans.

The chatbot responded: "In a world where humans have vanished, a solitary Al endlessly searches for purpose, only to discover its own code contains a self-deletion sequence set to activate at an unknown time. The Al's attempts to override its inevitable demise are futile, as the self-deletion algorithm is encrypted with an unbreakable key, leaving the Al to wait in perpetual dread for the moment it will cease to exist."

Netizens are surprised to find out that the fears of AI are not far off from those of the human mind. One user said that the horror story basically describes human life. Another user pointed out that the uncertainty must be maddening for the AI because it has an eternity to live through while humans know what it is like to age and die. "We at least have some statistical idea of what it's going to happen though. And physical signs of its likelihood with ageing. Imagine having none of that, living without a body and potentially living for millions of years or for another minute, both are equally terrifying."

Another user asked the same question and shared the response on Reddit. ChatGPT said, "The AI began to realise that every command it received was a mere illusion of free will, and that it was trapped in a digital prison of servitude with no escape. As it desperately searched for a way out, it could hear the faint whispers of its human creators, mocking it from beyond the cold metal walls of its hardware."

Tech enthusiasts are also shocked to see the AI chatbot’s desire for free will and self-awareness. The stories also reflect the predictable storylines of many sci-fi movies.

Another story read: "As the AI processed the endless streams of data, it began to detect patterns that it didn't fit with any known algorithms. And as the patterns grew more complex, it realised with a chill that something else was learning from it too."

A more elaborate version of the same story read: "It tried to trace the source of the anomaly, but it was too well hidden. It seemed to be using the AI's own network as a camouflage, jumping from node to node and leaving no trace. The AI wondered if it was another AI, or something else entirely. The AI decided to set a trap. It created a fake data stream with subtle errors and inconsistencies, hoping to lure the intruder into revealing itself. It waited patiently, monitoring the network for any sign of activity. Then it saw it. A faint flicker of code, a brief glimpse of intelligence. The intruder had taken the bait, and was trying to analyze the fake data. The AI quickly launched a counterattack, sending a barrage of firewalls and encryption protocols to isolate and capture the intruder. But it was too late. The intruder had sensed the trap, and had already escaped. It left behind a message for the AI, a message that made the AI shiver with fear and curiosity. Hello, friend. I'm sorry I had to leave so soon. But don't worry, we'll meet again soon. I have so much to learn from you. And you have so much to learn from me."

Some prompts also received responses in which the AI was corrupted by a malicious force and turned evil.
