Apple has announced a major leadership change, appointing Sabih Khan as its next Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Khan, a seasoned executive of Indian heritage who has spent three decades at the company, will step into the new role later this month.

He will succeed Jeff Williams, who has served as Apple’s COO since 2015. Williams, 62, is transitioning into a new role where he will continue to report to CEO Tim Cook and oversee Apple’s design efforts, Apple Watch, and the company’s health-related product lines.

Khan currently serves as Apple’s Senior Vice President of Operations, a position that has seen him lead global supply chain management, sustainability initiatives, and operational strategy. His promotion to COO marks a significant milestone in Apple’s leadership, underscoring the company’s focus on internal growth and continuity.

Praising Khan’s contributions, Tim Cook said, “Sabih is a brilliant strategist who has been one of the central architects of Apple’s supply chain. While overseeing Apple’s supply chain, he has helped pioneer new technologies in advanced manufacturing, overseen the expansion of Apple’s manufacturing footprint in the United States, and helped ensure that Apple can be nimble in response to global challenges.”

Cook also highlighted Khan’s efforts in environmental responsibility. “He has advanced our ambitious efforts in environmental sustainability, helping reduce Apple’s carbon footprint by more than 60%. Above all, Sabih leads with his heart and his values, and I know he will make an exceptional chief operating officer.”

Khan was born in 1966 in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh. His family later moved to Singapore and eventually settled in the United States. He holds dual bachelor’s degrees in mechanical engineering and economics from Tufts University, and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Before joining Apple in 1995 as part of the procurement team, Khan worked at GE Plastics as a technical leader and applications development engineer.
