Ray-Ban Meta glasses get Hindi support, UPI payments in India
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Meta on Wednesday announced a major update for Ray-Ban Meta glasses users in India, introducing several new Meta AI-powered features aimed at making the smart glasses more personal, localised, and convenient.
The latest update brings hands-free voice interactions, full Hindi language support, UPI Lite payments, and Diwali-themed photo restyling options, enhancing the overall user experience.
According to Meta, the new features are designed to offer more practical, culturally relevant, and engaging experiences, integrating the smart glasses more seamlessly into users’ daily lives.
With this update, users can now interact with Meta AI using voice commands through their Ray-Ban Meta glasses or via the Meta AI app. The virtual assistant can respond aloud, answer queries, explain topics, crack jokes, and help with day-to-day tasks.
A key highlight of the rollout is the introduction of full Hindi language support. Starting this week, users can set Hindi as their preferred language in the Meta AI app by navigating to Device Settings > Meta AI > Language and Voice. This will allow them to use the glasses entirely in Hindi — from asking questions and receiving information to taking photos, making calls, and controlling media.
Meta said this feature has been powered by tools developed by Sarvam, one of India’s leading foundational model companies.
To mark the festive season, Meta has also added a Diwali-inspired photo feature. By saying “Hey Meta, restyle this” while wearing the glasses, users can apply Diwali-themed effects such as lights, fireworks, and rangoli designs to their photos. The enhanced images will then be available in the Meta AI app.
In another significant addition, Meta is testing UPI QR code payments directly from the Ray-Ban Meta glasses. As showcased at the Global Fintech Fest, users will soon be able to make UPI Lite payments under ₹1,000 simply by looking at a QR code and saying, “Hey Meta, scan and pay.”
The payment will be processed through the user’s WhatsApp-linked bank account, allowing faster and more seamless transactions — without the need for a phone or wallet.
