OpenAI expands Sora 2 access to web, extends video duration to 15 seconds
text_fieldsOpenAI has announced two major updates to its Sora 2 video generation model, making it more accessible and powerful for users.
The updates allow users to create longer videos and access the model directly through the web.
The company said on Thursday that all eligible users can now generate 15-second-long AI videos using the Sora 2 model. Previously, the duration limit was 10 seconds. Users with a Pro subscription can now create videos of up to 25 seconds.
OpenAI introduced Sora 2 at the end of September, but access was initially limited to its new iOS app, available only to invited users. This restriction prevented many from trying the tool. The latest update removes the device limitation, allowing users without an iPhone to generate videos through the Sora website. However, the invite code requirement remains in place.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), OpenAI said the new updates reflect its ability to offer more computing resources to users, just weeks after Sora 2’s debut.
ChatGPT Plus and Pro users can still use the older Sora model without needing an invite code. Meanwhile, ChatGPT Pro users can now access the Sora storyboard feature on the web when using Sora 2.
The storyboard is a built-in video editing tool that allows users to add reference images, adjust video resolution and aspect ratio, and modify the video’s duration. It also includes a video timeline feature, enabling users to write separate text prompts for different frames to guide the AI in creating detailed visuals.
With these updates, OpenAI is expanding access to Sora 2 and offering creators more flexibility and control over their AI-generated videos.
