New York: An Indian techie who spent seven years working at Elon Musk’s Tesla was laid off last Friday adding to the massive job loss happening across leading companies.

A whopping 21,473 employees from 50 companies in the technology sector lost jobs in April 2024 alone, NDTV reported citing layoffs.

When job cuts first started last month, Tesla began showing the door to10 percent of the company's global workforce of 140,000 people.

The story of the employee at Tesla was shared on LinkedIn by her brother, Jatin Saini who is working at the advertising agency House of Creators.

Saini shared screenshots of the "cold email" his sister received from Tesla, which read: ‘Unfortunately as a result, your position has been eliminated by this restructuring.’

The job loss came a month after his sister celebrated a promotion at the company and she was to relocate from New Jersey to Washington DC.

Her plans went belly up when she discovered on May 3, 2024 that her office access card had been deactivated upon her arrival.

"She is not alone. On 15th April, Tesla laid-off 16,000 employees. Then 15 days later, they laid-off another 500 employees. 2 days ago, she also got the email along with 75% of her team," Saini reportedly wrote.

Highlighting how the company just with one mail made her like an outsider, he said: "She's been with Tesla for over half a decade and to find out like this...When you can't enter your own office; Your entire team is down and out; Your ID card is thrown away."

Questioning the lack of transparency, empathy and consideration in the process, he suggested 'cutting once and cutting deep' as a principle for layoff rather having to carry out a series of smaller layoffs.

Elon Musk's electric motor company laid off thousands as part of its plan to cut down workforce by about 10% to face challenges in sales and competition.
