Instagram expands carousel feature, doubles limit for photos and videos
text_fieldsInstagram has introduced a significant update to its platform, enhancing the way users share multiple photos and videos.
The social media giant has doubled the upload limit for its carousel feature, allowing users to now include up to 20 images or videos in a single post.
Previously, the limit was set at 10 uploads. This change is designed to make it more convenient for users to share larger collections of media, such as "end-of-summer" photo dumps, without needing to split them across multiple posts.
This update builds on Instagram's continuous efforts to improve user experience, particularly for content creators.
The carousel feature, which allows users to swipe through a series of images or videos in a single post, was first introduced in 2015 with a limit of 5 images. It was expanded in 2017 to include videos, with the limit increased to 10 frames. Earlier this year, Instagram tested a further expansion, allowing a select group of users to upload up to 15 frames in a single carousel. Now, the new 20-frame limit is being rolled out more broadly.
According to Instagram, the updated feature is available starting today, though some users have reported that it is not yet accessible on all devices.
In addition to the carousel update, Instagram has recently introduced several other features aimed at enhancing the platform for content creators.
Last month, the social media platform rolled out multi-track support for Instagram Reels, allowing users to add up to 20 tracks in a single reel.
Additionally, the launch of Meta AI Studio introduced AI-powered characters, enabling users to create personalized chatbots and generate AI avatars that can interact in direct messages (DMs) and story replies.
These updates are part of Instagram's ongoing strategy to enrich the user experience and provide more creative tools for its global community.
