Instagram has begun rolling out AI-powered voice translation and lip-syncing for Reels in five Indian languages, expanding its localisation efforts in the country.

The new languages include Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Marathi, adding to the existing support for English, Hindi, Spanish, and Portuguese.

The Meta-owned platform announced the update at its “House of Instagram” event in Mumbai, highlighting India as a priority market for early feature rollouts.

The feature allows creators to use Meta AI to dub their Reels into supported languages while preserving the original tone, pitch, and emotional quality of their voice. The AI also synchronises translated audio with mouth movements, aiming to make the dubbed videos appear natural and immersive.

Once the feature is enabled by creators, viewers will see an option to change the language of the Reel. Although the five Indian languages were first announced in November 2025, the company has now started making them available to users and creators.

In addition to voice translation, Instagram is introducing Indian language fonts on its Edits app. Creators will be able to add in-video text and captions using Devanagari and Bengali-Assamese scripts, supporting languages such as Hindi, Bengali, Assamese, and Marathi. This font update is set to roll out to Android users in the coming days.

Instagram said the updates are intended to help creators reach wider audiences and strengthen regional language content creation on the platform.
