Google Gemini may soon allow users to import saved preferences and chat history from ChatGPT, making it easier to switch between AI platforms.

According to a report by Android Authority, the latest version of the Google app includes two new options: “Import memory to Gemini” and “Import chats”.

With the memory feature, users are asked to copy a prompt generated by Gemini and paste it into another chatbot, such as ChatGPT. The other service then creates a summary of everything it knows about the user, including preferences and past context. Users can then paste that response back into Gemini and tap “Add memory” to save the information.

Google is also developing a second feature that would allow users to import complete chat histories. To do that, users would need to download their conversations from another chatbot and upload them to Gemini as a ZIP file. The uploaded file would have a size limit of 5GB.

The feature comes weeks after Anthropic introduced a similar option for its chatbot, Claude, allowing users to import memory from ChatGPT.

Google has not announced when the new tools will be widely available. The feature was discovered in an unreleased version of the app, meaning it could take days or months before a public rollout.
