Apple’s iPhone, Watch design chief to step down next year: report
text_fieldsNew York: Tang Tan, the vice president of product design at Apple Inc., is stepping down in a couple of months, Bloomberg News reported.
Citing sources, the outlet reported that Tan will leave in February causing a shake-up in company’s crucial product lines.
It is not known how Tan’s departure from the crucial role of product design for iPhone and Smartwatch could affect the company's edge in the market.
Still more, it is yet to see if somebody else is waiting to take over the position.
With Tan's leaving in February there will be reshuffling in duties as he reports to senior vice president of hardware engineering, John Ternus.
Those working under Ternus and Tan are getting expanded roles, according to the report.
The iPhone and Apple Watch created more than half of the tech giant's $383.3 billion in revenue last year.
Tan reportedly oversaw the company’s the team that handles much of the development of the AirPods alongside being responsible for the design of accessories.
The outlet reported citing sources that Tan’s departure could be a blow to the company.
Alongside making critical decisions on Apple’s vital products, Tan helped turn Watch and AirPods into ‘major growth drivers’ of the company.
Tan’s plans to leaving the company comes days after reports of another senior executive in charge of hardware technologies like Touch ID, Face ID and displays retiring.
