Amid farmer's protests,Instagram blocks #Sikh hashtag, unblocks it later
text_fieldsAmid the farmer's protests across India Instagram had blocked the #Sikh hashtag temporilarly. The social media platform said the hashtag "was temporarily blocked because of reports from the community for violations its Community Guidelines".
Users reported about this blockade, first on Twitter; Instagram faced heavy critism for blocking the hashtag on its platform.
Khala Aid USA, in its tweet called the blockade "an evidence of banning free speech".
Sikh Press Association also condemned the blockade.
After the incident was brought to light Instagram started to display a small number of posts on its platform. Earlier in June, the social media platform was accused of blocking the hashtag.
In March, Instagram had "mistakenly blocked" the hashtag after receiving a report that "was inaccurately reviewed" by its teams. The social media platform later apologized for the same.
According the NDTV's Gadgets 360, a spokesperson from the Facebook owned social media platform confirmed that the hashtag has now been unlocked.
