text_fieldsThe legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar congratulated sixteen-year-old Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa for defeating world chess champion Magnus Carlsen in the eighth round of the Airthings Masters - an online rapid chess competition.
Praggnanandhaa has made India proud and Tendulkar wished him a "successful" chess career. "What a fantastic feeling it must be for him. At 16, to beat the experienced & decorated Magnus Carlsen, and that too while playing black, is just unbelievable! Best wishes!" he said.
Raggnanandhaa has now become the third Indian player to beat Carlsen.
In the preceding three matches, Carlsen had won all three. But against the 16-year-old Praggnanandhaa, he bumbled badly, and the Indian took the win.
It was Praggnanandhaa's first win ever against Carlsen and came after losing three games in a row. Carlsen finished fifth on the leaderboard, up from 11th on Sunday.
