New Delhi: Renowned Indian chess player Tania Sachdev has expressed her frustration over the Delhi government's failure to acknowledge her significant accomplishments in chess.

In a social media post, the Delhi-based chess veteran highlighted her achievements, including being part of the Indian women's team that won the historic gold medal at the 2024 Chess Olympiad. She also pointed out the lack of recognition from the Delhi government despite her contributions to the sport, tagging Chief Minister Atishi and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal in her post.

Tania, who has represented India since 2008, lamented the lack of support from the Delhi government, stating that states that celebrate their champions inspire excellence and motivate talent. She expressed her disappointment that Delhi has yet to take similar steps in acknowledging chess players' achievements.

She also recalled her participation in the 2022 Chess Olympiad, where she was part of the team that secured a historic bronze medal and earned an individual medal. Despite this and the 2024 gold medal achievement, Tania noted that there has been no recognition from the Delhi government.

Tania, an Arjuna awardee, is a two-time national champion and a three-time Commonwealth chess champion. Through her post, she urged the Delhi government to support and recognize their chess athletes.
