New Delhi: Six time world champion MC Mary Kom was forced to withdraw from her Commonwealth Games 48kg trial after injuring her leg. The veteran Indian boxer on Friday injured herself in the first round of the 48kg semifinals.

In the CWG trials that were taking place at the Indira Gandhi International Stadium, Haryana's Nitu advanced to the finals.

Mary, the 2018 gold medalist, fell in the first round of the competition. The 39-year-old tried to move forward, but after few punches she struggled to maintain balance as she gripped her left leg, the Indian Express reported.

The Referee declared the win for Nitu through Referee Stops the Contest (RSCI). Kom had to be carried out of the ring for treatment.

She was later taken to the hospital for a scan. The most decorated Indian boxer had missed out on World Championships and Asian Games to focus on the CWG, which will take place next month in Birmingham.
