Key venues being developed for the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar are expected to be completed by 2029, local organisers said on Saturday.

The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave in Ahmedabad and the Gujarat Police Academy at Karai near Gandhinagar will serve as major competition venues during the Games.

The Games Organising Committee is expected to be formed in the coming weeks.

The 335-acre SVP Sports Enclave, which already houses the Narendra Modi Stadium, is developing additional facilities including an aquatics centre, a tennis complex, and a multipurpose arena.

The aquatics centre, with a seating capacity of 12,000, is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2029. The tennis facility, which can accommodate 24,000 spectators, and the 18,000-capacity multipurpose arena are both expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2029.

A National Institute for Sports Excellence is also planned within the sports enclave.

The Narendra Modi Stadium, which can host more than one lakh spectators, will be used for cricket events during the Games.

At the Gujarat Police Academy, a 50,000-capacity athletics stadium is expected to be completed by September 2028. The complex will also include a shooting centre with indoor and outdoor ranges and a spectator capacity of 4,000. The shooting facility is targeted for completion by March 2029.

The 2030 Commonwealth Games roster is expected to feature 17 disciplines. India has proposed the inclusion of sports such as shooting, badminton, and hockey, which were dropped from the upcoming Glasgow edition due to cost-cutting measures.

Officials said decisions regarding the allocation of sports to venues would be taken collectively by the Commonwealth Federation, the Indian Olympic Association, and the Gujarat government.

On Sunday, India will celebrate Commonwealth Games Day across 8,000 locations, with the main event taking place in Ahmedabad as part of the 75th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle.
