Ronaldo wishes to leave Manchester United
text_fieldsOld Trafford: Agence France-Presse reports surfacing speculations that Portugal's star footballer Christiano Ronaldo wanted to leave Manchester United (MU), the English football club.
There were multiple reports that the 37-year-old player would leave the club if an appropriate offer arrived. He came to MU from Juventus in the summer of 2021 and became the lead scorer for MU last season and third in the Premier League, but the campaign as a whole ended disappointingly.
In the Premier League, MU finished sixth and missed out on Champions League qualification. This has made Ronaldo, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, lose the chance to play in the Europa League for the first time. He has a year, along with an optional year, left in his contract with the club.
However, MU is reportedly adamant about not selling Ronaldo, who scored 24 goals in all competitions. New manager Erik ten Hag wishes to keep him.
The superstar footballer has won three Premier League titles and the Champions League during six trophy-laden years with United before leaving for Real Madrid in 2009 and Juventus in 2018.
Meanwhile, MU's international players are directed to rep[ort for training shortly as the team will fly to Thailand on Friday next to start their pre-season tour.
