Nikhat Zareen

Birmingham: In the women's 50kg light flyweight division of boxing, world champion Nikhat Zareen won Gold for India at the Commonwealth Games 2022 on Sunday. For the Telangana-based boxer, this is her maiden CWG medal, IANS reported.

Nikhat beat Northern Ireland's Carly McNaul, the 2018 Gold Coast silver medalist, with a dominating performance and unanimous judgement. The 26-year-old won three of her bouts at Birmingham 2022 5-0 and one via RSC (referee stops contest).

Nikhat prevailed with better combination punches, mixing left hooks and crosses, containing 33-year-old Carly McNaul in the opening round. The contest mostly went on close range.

Carly McNaul resorted to clinching many times, but Nikhat countered the former well. Nikhat resorted to the evasive mode in the last round and won the bout in the end.
